This project aims to celebrate the unique energy of Berlin by making of the Radbahn a colourful bike lane crossing the city from east to west. The project offers the opportunity to change the perception of the city and to improve durably the comfort and safety of cyclists. In addition to adding an iconic aspect to the Radbahn, the rainbow bike lane is based on the innovative implementation of a recycled material. The project aims to reinforce the contextualization of the Radbahn through the city of Berlin. Thus, each colour portions corresponds to a district, a place, a hub. Making of the Radbahn a chameleon artwork across the city. The overall perception of the colour gradient fades to become almost imperceptible on the scale of the cyclist who runs the bike lane. Almost unconsciously these colours become a new way to get around in the city. The cost of the recycled rubber surface used in the project is similar to the construction of a traditional bicycle lane (around 18€/M²). Furthermore, this product has the advantage of being durable, easy to maintain and will not waterproof the ground surface. In case of a fall or an accident, this material offers a softer and less abrasive surface than a standard tar bike lane. In addition to increasing safety this solution will reduce the risk of injury.
Ce projet vise à célébrer l’énergie unique de la ville de Berlin en faisant du projet « Radbahn » une piste cyclable colorée traversant la ville d’Est en Ouest. Ce projet offre l’opportunité de transformer la perception de la ville et d’augmenter durablement le confort et la sécurité des cyclistes. En plus d’ajouter un aspect iconique à la Radbahn, la piste arc-en-ciel est basée sur la mise en œuvre innovante de matériaux recyclés. Le piste renforce la contextualisation de la Radbahn à travers Berlin. Chaque bande de couleur correspond à un quartier, un parc ou un carrefour. Ce dispositif fait de la Radbahn une œuvre caméléon qui serpente à travers la ville. La perception globale du dégradé de couleurs s’efface pour devenir presque imperceptible à l’échelle du cycliste qui circule sur la piste. Presque inconsciemment ces couleurs deviennent un nouveau moyen de se repérer dans la ville. Le coût du revêtement en caoutchouc recyclé utilisé dans le projet est similaire au prix du goudron traditionnellement mis en œuvre sur une piste cyclable (18€/M²). Ce produit a l’avantage d’être durable, facile à entretenir et n’imperméabilisera pas la surface du sol. De plus en cas de chute ou d’accident, ce matériau offre une surface plus douce et moins abrasive qu’une voie cyclable en goudron standard.
